PAF Community – Design: towards greater equity
On February 11th, 2025, Design Museum Brussels and PAF join forces to host a conversation on gender bias and inequality in the design world, in dialogue with the exhibition Untold Stories – Women Designers in Belgium 1880–1980.
Starting from a clear observation the historical invisibility of women designers’ work in collections, archives, and academic narratives this conversation examines the patriarchal mechanisms that have shaped the sector: gendered education, professional recognition, notions of authorship, visibility, and collaboration.
Together with researchers and design practitioners, the discussion connects historical legacy with present-day realities in Belgium: which obstacles persist today? What strategies enable women designers to claim their place and transform the profession?
An open moment of exchange with speakers and audience to collectively imagine a more equitable, inclusive, and representative (interior) design sector.
Conversation with Nina Serulus (co-curator of the exhibition Untold Stories – Women Designers in Belgium 1880–1980), Benoît Vandevoort (PhD researcher on the professionalisation of interior design), Mathilde Pecqueur (textile designer, Maak&Transmettre), and Stefanie Everaert and Caroline Lateur (interior architects at Doorzon).
