À l’ombre, alanguies
This is the result of a three-way exploration around the idea of a Mediterranean patio. The starting point was a poem evoking the beginning of a summer evening in the south of France: that fleeting moment when colors shift and shadows grow. This gave rise to a tufted wall that extends into a carpet on the floor. It features a window, leaving the viewer contemplative as they look through it. Maak & Transmettre invites the spectator to experience this piece by walking around it, playing with the window’s transparency, or lounging on it. The result is scenographic, almost theatrical, hovering between artwork and design object.
“A carpet on which you curl up and stretch out, watching the traveler’s tree sway in the breeze from the half-open window. Beside me, my sisters play silently on the chessboard and time flows slowly. The sun lowers, stretching the shadows of the arches. Leaning against this piece of wood, languid on the “bancaous.” I hear the distant clink of glasses on the tray that Mathilde brings into the patio. The garlands light up. The cool terracotta underfoot, softened by the curtains. Insects join in, whirling around our glasses of limoncello. Each pauses, leaving the oppressive heat of the afternoon for the coolness of the night, which gives way to the festivities under the amused gaze of the birds.”
