BX1 – Brussels’ matrimoine in the spotlight
To mark the upcoming Heritage Days, Cyprien Houdmont and his guests are shining a spotlight on Brussels’ matrimoine this week in Autrement.
Every year since 1989, the Brussels Region has celebrated its architectural, historical and cultural heritage. But what about women’s heritage? Namely, the architectural, historical and cultural works created by women, which are still rarely highlighted in current urban planning.
The Brussels Region has decided to de-gender these heritage days by renaming them “Heritage Days”, causing a political outcry over the new name. In Autrement, we take a look at the initiatives of Brussels residents to de-gender heritage and highlight the capital’s matrimoine.
This week, Cyprien Houdmont welcomes Apolline Vranken from ‘L’architecture qui dégenre’ (Architecture that de-genders), Mélanie Cao, an Asian feminist activist, Camille Kervella from ‘Queering Brussels’, and Salomé Corvalan from ‘Maak and Transmettre’.
