Bold dualities – Milan design week
The BOLD Dualities exhibition presented a selection of 30 projects, some of which had never been shown before, during Milan Design Week. In a social, economic, and cultural context where the strength of collective work is more relevant than ever, the exhibition was part of the Baranzate Ateliers project, initiated by Lionel Jadot, designer and founder of Zaventem Ateliers in Brussels.
As part of Fuorisalone, the off program of the fair, this one-of-a-kind project offered Design Week visitors a broad overview of the many faces of contemporary Belgian design.
For Belgium is Design, joining this plural initiative was an obvious choice. It was a way to highlight its commitment to a collective vision of design, while also fully expressing the strength of its proposition. Rooted in a deep reflection on the meaning of design, the Bold Dualities exhibition aimed to place craftsmanship back at the heart of the debate. Curated by Baroness O, the exhibition emphasized gesture and contrasts born from the juxtaposition of textile objects, furniture pieces, and lighting.
Notable works included the mirror/screen by the duo Venlettettelin: their piece Points de Vue, made of polished stainless steel and varnished oak, offers a poetic reflection on the multiple perspectives of everyday life. As for the three designers/artisans working under the label Maak & Transmettre, their practice is driven by constant research into new textile processes. Arches, the curtain they presented in Milan, plays with contrasts and transparency effects. For Ana Maria Gomez, founder of amgs studio, Fuorisalone was the opportunity to present Cravo, a rug developed during a residency in Portugal in collaboration with the Belgian creative studio Omarcity.
